Ode to the Slash
|
My writing is now unconstrained
I‘m finding I’m much less stressed/strained By rules that I once learned in school I’ve found myself a better tool Commas and dashes—so passé Conjunctions—merely olden day The slash is simply far too neat It makes what I speak/write complete That leaning line’s so versatile No other symbol's so worthwhile Don’t write out words like “or” or “and” That makes your writing boring/bland Not sure between a yes or no? Can’t choose between a stop or go? Yes/no, stop/go—it’s crystal clear You’re now a verbal engineer You say my writing’s soft and vague My slashes have become a plague But frankly, I just can’t pick/choose The punctuation I should use And so the slash becomes my friend I use it now/then and again It saves me time and lets me shirk I make the reader do the work |
